Jennifer Nini is a writer, activist and certified organic farm owner. In 2010 she created Eco Warrior Princess, which she describes as a media brand that is redefining what it means to live green. Read here her expert tips for a healthy and green life.
What do you look for in a brand when choosing to work with them?
First, I have to like the offerings, so I look for any of the combination of traits: creative design, skill, innovation, appealing packaging, beautiful imagery and branding and an origin story that weaves in ethical and sustainable elements.
How do you balance the use of technology and working as a digital influencer?
I live on a certified organic farm and I practice intentional living so I have a very good balance. As a mindful entrepreneur I know what my priorities are and where my values lie. I spend parts of my day outside with my pets and our forests and I love gardening. I'm very committed to the slow lifestyle which I've written about extensively. I have deleted the email and Facebook apps off of my phone. I keep my social media screen time to no more than an hour a day. At a time when people are 'personal brands' and want to be seen and heard, thus creating so much noise, I prefer to let lead by example and use my precious time to affect the most change, and in my book, that's creating engaging work and empowering each of our writers to create work that makes a difference too.
Thinking about the impact of some skin products on our health, what are some key things to keep in mind when you’re on the hunt for a new brand to use?
Natural ingredients, vegan and cruelty-free, locally-made and I often cross check ingredients with the Environmental Working Group's Skin Deep database so I can read the independent research and learn how these ingredients impact on human health and environment.
What’s your natural beauty morning routine?
I just splash water on my face and I'm good to go as I don't wear lots of makeup. If my skin feels dry I'll throw on some moisturiser; I'm currently using one from natural skincare company USPA. Depending on the weather I'll either drink a cup of hot water with fresh lemon. If my skin is breaking out I will drink apple cider vinegar mixed with water. If I've got a client meeting on Skype, I might wear some eye liner and mascara from Ere Perez, mineral blush from Eco Minerals and some lip balm (currently I am using Clean & Pure Peppermint balm)."
