using natural eye makeup remover

using natural eye makeup remover

You’ve probably heard a million times that you should always remove your eye makeup at the end of the day. This beauty rule is absolutely true! However, you don’t necessarily need to use harsh chemicals to get rid of mascara, eyeshadow and eyeliner, especially if you have sensitive eyes. You may just have some natural ingredients in your home that can help you cleanse.

Using natural eye makeup remover can have a lot of benefits. It can be less irritating, plus more sustainable to use. Here are some clean and green alternative eye makeup removers that do the job just as well as their chemist counterparts.

5 Best Natural Eye Makeup Removers

1. Ere Perez Gingko Micellar Water
Our natural micellar water is a great, gentle way to remove eye makeup. It contains antioxidant-rich ginkgo biloba and is completely alcohol-free, perfect for even the most sensitive skin. To use, just soak a cotton pad with the micellar water then gently smooth over your eyes to remove your eye makeup. If you’re wearing lots of eyeliner and mascara you may want to hold the cotton pad in place for 10-15 seconds to loosen up your makeup so you can then gently swipe it off. This refreshing micellar water is equally good to use at home or on the road (it’s easy to pour into a travel-sized container) and isn’t just limited to cleansing your eyes; you can cleanse your whole face with it too.

2. Aloe Vera
Aloe vera has gentle cleansing qualities and is great to use when you are out of eye makeup remover and need a natural alternative at home. To make your own aloe vera natural eye makeup remover you can blend pure aloe vera gel (make sure it contains no alcohol) with coconut oil. Whisk together until you reach a smooth consistency then store in an airtight jar.

3. Jojoba Oil
Oils break down eye makeup really well, especially jojoba oil. This golden elixir can loosen even the most stubborn lash glue and eyeliner. To use, apply a few drops your fingertips then gently massage your eye area until you see your makeup dissolve. You may look into the mirror and see some “racoon eyes” as the makeup surrounds your eyes. Next use a gentle cleanser to wash of the oil and makeup from your face. You should reveal clean, gently cleansed eyes.

4. Shea Butter
Even the most resistant (read: waterproof) eye makeup can’t withstand the powers of shea butter. This thick natural ingredient becomes a thin beautiful oil when massaged into the palms of your hand to prep before applying to your eye area. Gently apply the shea butter to your eye area and massage until your eye makeup starts breaking down. Remove everything with a cotton ball or gentle cleanser like our ginkgo micellar water, and voila - your eye area is completely makeup-free!

5. Rose Water
Not a fan of the oils? Then rose water is going to be your remover of choice, especially if you have sensitive eyes. Rose water has been used for thousands of years as a thorough yet gentle cleanser, that also happens to smell delightful. To use as an eye makeup remover apply to a cotton pad and gently remove your eye makeup.

For all eye makeup removers, we love sustainable/reusable wipe options rather than single-use. You can make your own or buy a reusable set online!
