Inspirational woman: Annalise Braakensiek

Inspirational woman: Annalise Braakensiek

Beautiful Australian model, designer and presenter Annalise Braakensiek is one of our most gorgeous neighbours in Sydney and a long-term fan of Ere Perez. With an incredible 2.4 million Facebook followers and another 22.5k on Instagram, this super-talented lady is as influential, as she is gorgeous; speaks six languages; has her own stunning range of jewellery and a line of sleepwear and lingerie.

She has just signed with Spanish sunglasses brand, Flamingo, and has her own collection set to launch in October this year at www.flamingoaustralia.com.

Annalise grew up on a biodynamic farm and is naturally dedicated to healthy living, a devoted yoga fan, pescatarian and cruelty free advocate.  She’s a committed supporter of the Starlight Foundation, Cancer Council and Olivia Newton-John Cancer Centre and prolific animal rights advocate, having campaigned on behalf of PETA, the Human Society International (HSI), and the RSPCA.

What does being naturally beautiful mean to you?

Being an innately kind, loving, and supportive, positive and generous person.

What inspires you?

LOVE is the main inspiration for everything I do and create. I’m also inspired by my loved ones. Different cultures, cuisines and countries. I take a lot of my design inspiration from Mother Nature: such as a beautiful flower, a sunrise, a butterfly, or some crazy rock formations… I am constantly inspired by nature for my print ideas, and shapes and patterns for my jewellery designs. My love of nature also motivates me to be an eco warrior, and do all I can to help protect this beautiful planet of ours.

Top 3 inspirational women?

My darling nanna, Frida Khalo and Mother Teresa (and Beyonce if I could squeeze in a fourth!)

What had driven your particular diet choice?

I’m Pescatarian, although I was vegan for a few years as a child growing up, and chose to be so again for many years, but I now eat sustainable seafood, organic free range eggs and rennet-free goat’s or sheep’s milk products, although I would say I do eat a predominantly vegan diet.

I choose not to eat meat and I don’t eat wheat or dairy due to severe allergies. I am a proud MSC (Marine Stewardship Council) ambassador and feel it’s imperative we eat sustainably, not just from the land, but also from the sea.

I was fortunate to have been brought up on a biodynamic farm, so eating biodynamic food, using biodynamic products and being mindful of our environment was instilled in me from a very early age; it’s just how I live and have always lived my life and something I'm extremely grateful for.

What are your food weaknesses?

Anything fried… salt and pepper tofu doesn’t stand a chance with me around that’s for sure! Ha ha.

Do you adhere to a daily beauty regime?

Yes, I fastidiously cleanse, serum and moisturize twice daily using Aspect Dr and Cosmedix cruelty free natural skin care, I get regular facials, natural peels and light treatments at All Saints Cosmedical clinic in Darlinghurst and I get my hair maintained by an eco friendly non-toxic hair salon Stevie English. They use Original Mineral hair products and even use recycled foils (and recycle them)!

I don’t see why the environment or animals need suffer for my beauty regime, so I wear Ere Perez makeup – my favourites are Beautiful Beetroot Cheek & Lip Tint, BONDI Blush and Pure Rice Powder Bronzer, Versatile Vanilla Highlighter and of course the Natural Almond Oil Mascara! I also use Weleda and Dr Hauschka body lotions and potions.

What’s your best natural beauty tip?

Sleep … and don’t I wish I got more of it! Also drink plenty of purified water for plump hydrated skin, and infra red saunas are incredible for detoxing and making your skin glow. I go to Health Space for at least 3 infra red saunas a week when I'm in Sydney….and source them out wherever I can whilst travelling. My yoga school Body Mind Life uses infra red heat, it’s just magical to rinse out your organs internally.

How do you stay fit and healthy?

When I'm in Sydney I practice yoga and Pilates at least 6 times a week at BodyMindLife Bondi Beach. I also powerwalk and soft sand, and I love to dance! I go to Beach Fit gym if it’s raining or too crazy hot to do cardio outside. I take my yoga mat with me everywhere I travel, but I love to take advantage of the natural surroundings wherever I am too… My exercise regime varies depending on what country I'm in and the circumstances, but since Melanie McLachlan gave me a fab travel yoga practice session, its been my saving grace that I can have a juicy practice no matter where I am or what the weather is like outside… just roll out my mat and voila!

How do you most like to spend free time?

Cooking (and eating) exercising, art galleries, studying Spanish, designing/drawing, watching films (I'm an arthouse film nut) and I love nothing more than languorous summer days on the beach.

What do you hope to achieve this year?

Everything! I’d like to be fluent in Spanish by the end of the year; be able to head stand with ease and grace; I want to learn Norwegian and to get better at surfing.

I’d really like to do everything I can to help make a positive change in any way I can. I post daily on my FB and Instagram with messages and photos to help spread positivity, happiness, love, mindfulness and kindness.

I hope to teach and inspire people to eat well with my Love Lunch meat free organic cooking and blogging, and hopefully my Love Lunch cook book will be released this year too. I will continue to raise awareness and funds for the various charities I help with: cancer, animal rights and environmental fights… I believe every little bit helps, and I'm going to try and do more than a little bit!
