Juice for healthy skin

get juicy to boost your skin

Drinking cold-press juices is a great way to give you digestive system a break and fuel your body with the most nutrient dense goodness available. They are loaded with enzymes, vitamins and minerals. Juicing is also a great way to get all your serves of veggies in one glass. Adding cold-press vegetable juices to your routine will propel your health to another level. I recommend drinking on an empty stomach for maximum absorption and to drink as soon as possible after it has been made.

Give Me Clarity
This was our famous green juice at the cafe. I use fennel fronds in this which would otherwise have been thrown away. The fennel increases the vitamin C content and gives the juice a hint of sweetness. It’s also a wonderful digestive aid. Dark leafy greens contain loads of chlorophyll and are a powerful rejuvenating boost for your body.

Prep: 5 minutes | Equipment: cold-press juicer | Serves: 1

2 celery stalks

1 whole cucumber
2 cups greens (spinach, bok choy, kale)
1 handful parsley
1 green apple (optional, for added sweetness)
½ lemon
1 cm (¼ in) piece of ginger

Wash all ingredients well and chop to the right size for your juicer. Add to juicer, alternating between softer and harder ingredients, adding the greens and herbs then the cucumber, celery and lemon. Stir well and enjoy.

NoteIf you’re using organic produce, which I highly recommend, especially when juicing, you can add the lemon with the peel and all. Cold-press juices maintain nutritional stability for 72 hours. If using a centrifugal juicer, for optimal nutrition, consume within 10 minutes of making it.

Give Me Transformation
This juice is a great liver tonic with beetroot and dandelion both known for keeping your liver healthy. Beetroots are rich in the phytonutrient betanin, which supports detoxification and is rich in antioxidants.

Prep: 5 minutes | Equipment: cold-press juicer | Serves: 1

2 beetroots, whole
1 cucumber, whole
2 celery stalks
1 handful dandelion greens
½ lemon

Wash all ingredients well and chop to the right size for your juicer. Alternate between adding the beetroot and the celery then the cucumber and dandelion. Stir well and enjoy.

Give Me Immunity
This juice is loaded with vitamin C from the oranges and carrots, with turmeric and ginger adding value for their healing and anti-inflammatory properties.

Prep: 5 minutes | Equipment: cold-press juicer | Serves: 1

2 oranges
2 carrots
2 celery stalks
2 cm piece turmeric
1 cm piece ginger

Wash all ingredients well. Peel the oranges and chop everything to the right size for your juicer. Alternate juicing the oranges with the carrots, celery, turmeric and ginger. Stir well and enjoy.

Superfood Smoothies
Our digestive system takes time to wake up in the morning, just like the rest of our body, and one of the best ways to get it going is by drinking an easy to digest smoothie or juice. Smoothies are hydrating and a great way to pack in an abundance of vitamins and minerals. You can vary these by adding your favourite superfoods, protein powder, chia seeds or hemp seeds for an added omega boost. You really can’t go wrong.

Give Me Beauty
Fresh coconut milk, berries, banana and super-high-antioxidant macqui berry powder to feed your skin and nourish you from the inside out.

Prep: 5 minutes | Equipment: blender | Serves: 1

1¼ cups coconut milk (or your favourite plant-based milk)
1 cup berries, frozen
1 banana, frozen
1 teaspoon macqui berry powder

Place all ingredients in a blender and blend until smooth and creamy.

Note: add your sweetener of choice. I like to add a few drops of stevia.

Peaceful Warrior
Thick and creamy with the frozen banana and made with just four wholesome ingredients, this smoothie is naturally sweet from the bananas, and the added protein provides extra nourishment for a quick, easy breakfast on the go.

Prep: 5 minutes | Equipment: blender | Serves: 1

1¼ cups Coconut Milk
2 bananas, frozen
1 scoop protein powder
½ teaspoon cinnamon

Place all ingredients in a blender and blend until smooth and creamy.

Give Me Power
Green smoothies are super easy to make and are a brilliant way to meet your daily greens requirement. Greens have many life-giving properties. They strengthen the blood and immune system, prevent cancer and fight depression naturally by supplying a plethora of nutrients needed to make neurotransmitters.

Prep: 5 minutes | Equipment: blender | Serves: 1

2 cups greens (kale, bok choy, spinach)
¼ cucumber
½ orange, peeled
¼ cup mango, frozen
¼ cup pineapple, frozen
sprig of parsley
6 mint leaves
¼ cup filtered water

Place all ingredients in the blender and blend until smooth and creamy. Adjust water to your desired consistency. If you prefer it thicker add less water. Serve immediately for maximum nourishment.

Health tip: The citrus in this smoothie is an important component not only to balance flavour but it aids in the absorption of iron from the leafy greens. The fibre in raw greens also helps to keep the digestive tract moving. Play around with the ratio of greens to fruit that best suits your taste, ultimately aiming for 70:30 greens to fruit ratio.
