Founders Juan and Ere Perez celebrated 20 years of marriage in Merida, Mexico earlier this month. Merida is one of Mexico’s cultural capitals and is close to Chichen-Itzá famous Mayan ruins and the natural cenotes (underground waterholes) found throughout the stunning Yucatan Peninsula.

The colourful commitment ceremony was hosted at the stunning Hacienda Teya, founded in 1683, this cattle ranch turned to cultivating henequen (yellowish fibre from the agave plant) at the beginning of the 20th century.

The abandoned hacienda was purchased in 1974 and restored to the classic beauty we see today, known for its traditional Yucatán restaurant, vast green gardens and seventeenth century ballrooms that host weddings like that of Juan and Ere.

Guests were treated to tasty mezcal and fresh fruit icicles and pop up taco stands on arrival-followed by an array of traditional Yucatán dishes such as poc chuc, pollo pibil and a vegan dish sikil pak (pumpkin seed hummus).

Live music included a traditional xylophone (marimba) musician to accompany the afternoon ceremony, a funky local big band for the outdoor garden party and of course no Mexican fiesta is complete without a Mariachi band at midnight for the 200 strong crowd to dance the night away,

Family, friends and co-workers came from far and wide to celebrate the commitment of Juan and Ere to each other, along with their 3 children who each played a creative part in the ceremony, performing songs and dancing to entertain the crowd.

The traditional Yucatan dinner was served on tables decorated with green natural plants, oak chairs and golden cutlery- a traditional Yucatán wooden fan was given as a gift from the region. Yellow was the colour of the day, with a splash of navy- representing the vibrancy of Ere and the strength of Juan, the creative team behind Ere Perez.

Ere Perez Natural Cosmetics is also celebrating 15 years in business this month, since their humble beginnings in a small flat in Tamarama, where it all began 20 years when Ere moved to Australia to marry Juan.

Growing strong from each years successes, now with an office in Bondi and  Monterrey, Mexico (Ere’s hometown), Ere says “the secret to a sustainable business is loving what you do and who you do it with, we look after each other, our family and our team, both at work and play”

From the ground up the Ere Perez ethos of simplicity in formulations and packaging is strong and the products are made with purity and care as nature intended.

This month we honour the commitment of Juan and Ere both in work and pleasure, and to the Ere Perez global team that work tirelessly behind the scenes- we Salud you!
